Maki came into my life from a friend whose cat had kittens. She was the runt cat and smallest of her siblings and had a calm temperament. Her mom was an all-grey short-haired cat, and her dad, “Hank,” was a shaggy black and white tuxedo. She lived with me in an apartment in California, where she lived half of her life. Her first experiences were surrounded by me and my housemates and two big cats, who played with Maki and accepted her. Maki had many adventures when she was young with lot’s of people, other cats, siblings (including her mom cat), and dogs People used to tell me, ” why is your cat so clam, she is like a budha.”She would sit with her eyes closed all still and calm like a budha would. Which has always stuck with me as one of her many nicknames “the budha cat.” When she was a young cat she lived with a dog named Star for about 5 years. She has lived in many different places with me over the years. When my daughter was born, she was my daughter’s guardian, sibling and friend for 11 years. Maki was a part of our family, she was a lap cat with the loudest purr and loved to sit in the sun. She would wake us up every morning for snuggles and lay next to us, mostly on the pillows by our heads..Maki was such a friendly, sweet cat and was so content to hang out near your side or on your lap. She loved when me and my daughter would play a board game or do schoolwork together. She spent the last years of her life as an indoor cat. Her health started to decline from chronic kidney disease she went blind towards the end of her life but still had an endless amount of purring and happiness in her. Even at the very end before she passed we got to hear her last purr before we said goodbye. She passed away peacefully in our home with me and my daughter in the bed we all slept on. We both held her to the end as we touched noses and said our final farewell in this physical existence. I will never forget that moment. She was my best friend. Her spirit will always be with us. Maki will be greatly missed.
